Paper MC is a server-side Minecraft modification that allows the server to run Plugins along with various improvements and fixes. It enables the use of server plugins such as ViaVersion / ViaRewind and etc.
From their website, “Paper is a Minecraft game server based on Spigot, designed to greatly improve performance and offer more advanced features and API.”
Today we’ll show how to start a Paper server for Minecraft, how and where to acquire Minecraft server plugins, how to install server plugins, and a few more things.
1. Starting a Paper Minecraft Server
With Campfire Hosting, starting a Paper server is simple and easy. From the Admin panel, just click on “Add server” then all you have to do is change the change the Server type to “Paper” and voila. You can then press Create server after adjusting the other options and it’ll be ready in only a few seconds!
2. Finding and Adding Plugins
You can find plugins for your new Paper server Hangar which is the developer’s mod repository service.
To install the plugins on to your Minecraft server, do the following:
1. Search for your desired plugin and download it.
2. Make sure the downloaded file has a .jar extension. If it’s a .zip, extract it to find the .jar file typically labelled as “bukkit” or “paper”.
3. Refer to the SFTP Guide to connect to your server.
4. Once connected with your SFTP client, navigate to the server’s “plugins” folder then simply drag and drop the .jar file into it.
5. If the server is running, restart it with the Force Stop command on the server dashboard to let the plugin initialize.
6. After your server is up, either type /plugins in-game or enter “plugins” in the server console.
Your new plugin should appear in green. If it’s missing or shows in red, refer to the developer’s troubleshooting section on their website.
3. Enjoy your server!
These are all the steps in order to get your Paper Minecraft server with plugins up and running. Remember to only download plugins from trusted sources! The PaperMC docs contain further information if needed.
