Vanilla Minecraft gives you a good box of blocks and then leaves you to it. That’s fine until you want a roof that isn’t stairs, a wall that isn’t flat, or a kitchen that isn’t three barrels in a row. At that point the limits start showing.

The mods below fix that in different ways. Some hand you new blocks, some hand you new shapes, and one adds nothing at all but makes everything you already have easier to reach. Most work on both NeoForge and Fabric, with two exceptions noted below.

Extra Blocks

Chisels & Bits by AlgorithmX2 adds so much extra detail. It lets you cut full blocks into tiny pieces and place those pieces back however you like, which means smooth stairs, real sloped roofs, and detailed pillars. The bits shape the block, the grid never meant to allow. It uses in-game materials, so anything you can mine becomes something you can carve. It’s the most powerful mod on this list and also the most demanding, both on your patience and on your graphics card.

FramedBlocks by XFactHD comes at the same problem from the other direction. Instead of carving blocks down, it gives you over a hundred prebuilt shapes such as slopes, prisms, corners, panels, pillars, half stairs, and vertical stairs, and then lets you disguise each one as almost any other block in the game. Right click a framed slope with cobblestone and it becomes a cobblestone slope. It also has tools like a wrench for rotating pieces or a screwdriver for cycling states. If you build roofs, this mod can help.

Stoneworks by Fuzs is a mod that improves stone variants. It fills the gaps in vanilla’s stone blocks by adding cobbled variants, bricks, tiles, pillars, and shingles for every stone type already in the game, and most of those can become stairs, slabs, and walls too. Everything is crafted at the stonecutter, so it stays survival-friendly and doesn’t bury your recipe book. It’s a texture upgrade for your builds.

Sawmill by MehVahdJukaar adds no blocks whatsoever. It gives wood the stonecutter treatment, so you can slice logs and planks straight into stairs, slabs, fences, and doors without hunting through crafting recipes. If you’ve ever burned twenty minutes converting spruce logs into different blocks, this is the mod that gives that time back.

Furniture

Handcrafted by terrariumearth comes from the team behind Chipped and brings over 250 furniture pieces to the game. Chairs, tables, benches, desks, cupboards, couches, custom beds, chests of drawers, and small details like mugs, plates, book piles, and tablecloths. The styles span medieval, fantasy, steampunk, and plain vanilla, so it fits whatever you’re building rather than dragging everything toward one aesthetic. Pieces can be made from different wood types, which matters when you’re trying to match an existing room.

MrCrayfish’s Furniture Mod Refurbished by MrCrayfish is the other half of the interior problem. Where Handcrafted leans rustic and decorative, this one leans practical and modern, filling in the rooms other mods skip. Kitchens get counters, cabinets, and appliances. Bathrooms get fixtures that actually look like fixtures. A lot of it is functional rather than purely decorative, which is a real difference in feel once you’re living in the house you built. Running both mods together is common and works well, since they rarely cover the same ground.

Extra Building Pieces

Sketch Macaw’s collection has almost everything you are missing. Each one focuses on a single category of block, and you can install only the ones you’ll use. The four most useful for general building are Macaw’s Doors, which adds vanilla-style doors in every wood color plus a set of unique designs, Macaw’s Trapdoors, which does the same for trapdoors across every plank variation, Macaw’s Windows, which brings windows, mosaic glass, blinds, shutters, and curtains, and Macaw’s Fences and Walls, which fills out fences, walls, and gates in the same vanilla style.

The appeal is consistency. Everything is drawn to match the base game’s look, so adding four of these doesn’t leave your builds feeling like a patchwork of different art styles. Sketch Macaw has a much larger catalog covering roofs, bridges, lights, paths, and paintings, so it’s worth browsing the full list once you know which gaps you’re trying to fill.

Building Your Pack

If you’re only adding two mods, take FramedBlocks and Sawmill. One expands what shapes you can make and the other removes friction from everything you’re already doing, and between them they change how building feels more than any block pack will.

Two loader notes before you install. FramedBlocks is Forge and NeoForge only, with no Fabric version at all. And Chisels & Bits is split across two separate CurseForge projects, one for Forge and one for Fabric, so make sure you’re grabbing the right one for your setup. Everything else here runs on both loaders from a single project page.
