If you’ve ever watched a friend in London swing at a creeper, hit nothing, and then reappear at spawn half a second later, you already understand the problem we just fixed.
Campfire now runs servers in a European region. When you create a new server, you can choose to host it much closer to your players in the UK and EU instead of routing every action across an ocean.
What was actually going wrong
When your server sits in North America and your friend is connecting from Europe, every block they break, every hit they land, and every chest they open has to travel a few thousand miles and back before the game agrees it happened. That round trip is what shows up as rubber-banding, delayed block breaks, and combat that seems to ignore you.
It was never their internet connection. It was the distance.
What the European region does
Hosting in Europe cuts that round trip dramatically, and the difference is immediate rather than subtle. Blocks break when you click them. Hits register. Nether portals stop swallowing people mid-transit.
Your credit rate stays exactly the same either way. There’s no separate pricing for the European region.
Which region should you pick
You choose your region when you create the server, so it’s worth thinking about for a minute before you click through. The rule is simple. Host where most of your players are, not where you are.
If the majority of your group connects from the UK or continental Europe, pick the European region. If most of your players are in North America, stay with a North American region, because hosting in Europe would just hand the lag to them instead.
If your group is genuinely split down the middle, pick the region where your most active players sit. A server that’s perfect for four people and mediocre for two beats one that’s mediocre for everybody. It’s also worth remembering that lag hurts most during combat and redstone timing, so if your heavy PvP players are all on one side of the Atlantic, weight your decision toward them.
Already have a server running
Region is set at creation, so there’s no button in your dashboard to move an existing world across the Atlantic. We can still do it for you, though. Get in touch with our support team on Discord and we’ll handle the move.
Worth doing if your player base has shifted since you first set things up, or if you started the server before the European region existed.
Creating a new server
Pick your region during setup and you’re done. Everything else works exactly as it always has. If anything looks off after your server comes online, reach out on Discord and we’ll take a look with you.
