Minecraft’s Chaos Cubed game drop landed on June 16, 2026, arriving as Java Edition 26.2 and Bedrock Edition 26.30. It’s a smaller drop than an entire update, but it packs in a new biome, two new block sets, and one of the strangest mobs Mojang has ever shipped. Here’s what your server is getting.
Sulfur Caves
Sulfur caves are a new underground biome, marked on the surface by bright sulfur springs. Follow one down and you’ll find shallow pools, glow lichen, jagged sulfur spikes, and walls streaked with yellow and red. It’s a genuinely hazardous place to explore, and it’s the only place sulfur cubes spawn naturally.
Cinnabar and Sulfur Blocks
Both new blocks come as complete building sets. Cinnabar is a deep red stone, and sulfur is a sickly, vivid yellow. Each has the usual family of variants, so you can polish them, brick them, cut them into stairs and slabs, and generally paint your builds in colors the overworld hasn’t offered before.

Potent Sulfur and Nausea Gas
Potent sulfur is the drop’s environmental hazard. Craft it from nine sulfur blocks, or find it generating naturally in sulfur pools and springs. Place it underwater and it releases a stream of bubbles that pools into noxious gas at the surface. Any player or mob that swims into water near that gas gets hit with nausea.
There’s a build trick hiding in it, too. Put potent sulfur on top of a magma block with one to four water source blocks above it, and you’ve made a working geyser, which is useful for launch pads, hazard courses, and parkour maps.

Bucket of Sulfur Cube
The sulfur cube is a passive, slime-like mob that bounces aimlessly around sulfur caves until you feed it a block. Hand one over directly, drop it nearby, or fire it from a dispenser, and the cube absorbs it and changes its physics to match.
The block you pick matters a lot. Ice strips out the bounce entirely and turns the cube into a hockey puck that skims across flat ground at high speed, while sponge lands it in the fast-and-flat category, low, quick, and gliding a long way before it stops. Wool goes the other direction, making the cube light enough to pop high into the air and buoyant enough to float, whereas ores and metals turn it into a medicine ball that barely budges when struck. And TNT does exactly what you’d expect, except that the cube can still move around while primed.
Shears reset a cube by removing whatever it swallowed with one exception. Once a TNT cube is lit, nothing stops it.

To get one home, use an empty bucket on a large cube. You’ll get a bucket of sulfur cube, and the tooltip shows which block it’s currently carrying. Bucketed cubes don’t count toward the mob cap and won’t despawn, which makes them far more reliable than leading one across the map. Only large cubes can be bucketed; small ones need about twenty minutes to grow first.
Getting it on your server
Chaos Cubed is live across all current versions of Minecraft. If you’re running mods or plugins, check compatibility before jumping to 26.2 or 26.30, and take a world backup first, as always.
